Teaching Philosophy

My personal education philosophy is the same as my coaching. I set students up with skills and abilities so they can succeed. During my practicum I would set my students up with certain skills like how to build a jewelry box. I would show them step by step how to make this box. At first students think the overall product is hard and complex, but when you break it down into steps they understand it better than before. This style is very similar to how I coach sports. I will break down a play so each player knows where he or she should be on the court. They know when to cut and where they should be by the end of the play. Coaching and teaching are the same; it is developing the ability to clearly get your point across which can be a struggle.

As an educator I need to be able to create an environment that will allow my students to reach beyond what they feel like their potential is. Students need a place where they can grow intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially. School is also a place where these students find new interest in different subject areas. These interest could lead to career choices or hobbies that they take up when they get older. Students can discover these interests and build them into something they enjoy. Teachers are role models and should behave in a way for students to look up to and inspire to be. High school years can be influential on how students grow into adults. It’s our job to produce thoughtful, responsible, confident, and reliable students which can see that there is no limitations to what they can do in life.
