The creators call it &#8220;a cross-platform multi-agent programmable modeling environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It somewhat reminds me of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Conway%27s_Game_of_Life\">The Game of Life<\/a>, which you can play in <a href=\"http:\/\/demonstrations.wolfram.com\/AnASCIIGameOfLife\/\">Mathematica<\/a> from Wolfram Software. That&#8217;s a cellular automaton game, but NetLogo, while rules-based seems capable of much more complexity.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ccl.northwestern.edu\/netlogo\/models\/models\/Sample%20Models\/Art\/Follower.png\" align=\"right\">A fairly simple example is <a href=\"http:\/\/ccl.northwestern.edu\/netlogo\/models\/Follower\">Follower<\/a>, in which turtles must follow other turtles. There are only 4 possible states in this example:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n &#8211; Unattached<br \/>\n &#8211; Following another turtle (a &#8220;tail&#8221;)<br \/>\n &#8211; Being followed by another turtle (a &#8220;head&#8221;)<br \/>\n &#8211; Following and being followed by other turtles (a &#8220;body&#8221; segment)\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A more complex example is <a href=\"http:\/\/ccl.northwestern.edu\/netlogo\/models\/Mimicry\">Mimicry<\/a>, an evolution model in which butterflies are eaten by birds preferentially based on color &#8211; a signal for good or bad food &#8211; and reproduce differentially based on population size, mutation, and other factors.<\/p>\n<p>Very interesting!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m checking out NetLogo, from Northwestern university.
