{"id":231,"date":"2020-03-11T12:54:40","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T19:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/techtalk\/?page_id=231"},"modified":"2020-03-16T13:44:02","modified_gmt":"2020-03-16T20:44:02","slug":"initiatives","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/techtalk\/technology-at-thompson\/initiatives\/","title":{"rendered":"Initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are a number of tech initiatives under way at Thompson:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Challenge Based Learning<\/strong> &#8211; Both grade 6\/7 classes are part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.challengebasedlearning.org\/toolkit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Challenge Based Learning<\/a> \u00a0innovative program involving the use of technology and inquiry based teaching.\u00a0 Fifty-three students are provided with an iPad to use for the school year, both at home and in the classroom.\u00a0 This is in addition to the fifty iPads that remain at the school.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Colour Symbol Image (CSI) Initiative &#8211; <\/strong>This <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visiblethinkingpz.org\/VisibleThinking_html_files\/VisibleThinking1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Making Thinking Visible<\/a> initiative is a school-wide goal designed to create a culture of critical thinkers.\u00a0 Technology is an instrumental part of this goal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Student Reporting Policy Pilot (SRPP) Initiative<\/strong> &#8211; The school is involved in the SRPP initiative on portfolio assessment and reporting.\u00a0 Launched by the British Columbia Ministry of education in August 2018, the <a href=\"https:\/\/curriculum.gov.bc.ca\/assessment\/classroom-assessment-and-reporting\/student-reporting-policy-pilot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">K-9 Student Reporting Policy Pilot<\/a> allows teachers and students to explore new ways of communicating student assessment with families.\u00a0 In the 2019-2020 school year, thirteen school districts and two independent schools were involved.\n<p>Thompson is in the second year of the program and receives a grant for support.\u00a0 Some teachers also received additional classroom iPads while most of the funds are used for staff training.\u00a0 As a part of the school&#8217;s local approach, every teacher reports via the portal with the intention of opening the channels of communication between students, parents, and teachers.\u00a0 Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/thompson.sd38.bc.ca\/news\/2019\/11\/08\/parent-survey-qr-codes-our-student-reporting-pilot-project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>\u00a0for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"post-excerpt\">There are a number of tech initiatives under way at Thompson: Challenge Based Learning &#8211; Both grade 6\/7 classes are&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":67116,"featured_media":0,"parent":21,"menu_order":1,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-231","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/techtalk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/231","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/techtalk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/techtalk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/techtalk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/67116"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/techtalk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=231"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/techtalk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/231\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":377,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/techtalk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/231\/revisions\/377"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/techtalk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/21"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/techtalk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=231"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
