Join us on March 3rd 2018 to hear stories\u00a0TOLD\/UNTOLD.<\/em><\/h4>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>For the most up-to-date announcements regarding application and conference dates you can follow us on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/tedxubc\">Twitter<\/a>\u00a0and like our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TEDxUBC\/\">Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>* * *<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: red;\">TEDx<\/span>UBC<\/b> is a conference for UBC\u2019s most fascinating students to share their ideas and visions with the university and with the world.<\/p>\n<p>Held in the Life Sciences Institute on the UBC Point Grey Campus, <b><span style=\"color: red;\">TEDx<\/span>UBC<\/b> provides eight student speakers, from a wide range of interests and backgrounds, with the opportunity to address an audience of over 400.\u00a0 Each talk is professionally recorded and archived on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/TEDxTalks?feature=watch\">TEDx YouTube Channel.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Engagement opportunities are also made available throughout the conference, where community leaders, artists, clubs, and non-profits are invited to set up booths and presentations during the breakout sessions.\u00a0 This provides audience members with the opportunity to engage with local organizations and student-led initiatives.<strong> Be prepared to be swept off your feet by the passion of the UBC community.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>History<\/h2>\n<p>On November 22nd, 2008, the Terry project rolled out its first \u201cTerry Talks\u201d conference. Under the guidance of the UBC student community and via feedback with the fine folks at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ted.com\/\">TED<\/a>, the aim was to present a student conference where our\u00a0<strong>very own<\/strong>\u00a0students had the platform to express their personal passions \u2013 be they related to their roles as academic participants or as advocates for social change. The day occurred in the beautiful Life Sciences Institute with an audience of around 300. Here, those audience members were on hand to hear out 6 undergraduate, 2 graduate, and 1 \u201cYoung Alumni\u201d present their stories, as well as listen to three great TED videos.<\/p>\n<p>In 2009, Terry talks morphed into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.terry.ubc.ca\/tedxterrytalks\/\">TEDxTerry Talks<\/a>. TEDxTerry Talks ran until 2016 where it continued to be one of the best places on campus for students to express their own passions \u2013 be they related to their roles as academic participants or as advocates for social change.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, after a brief 1 year hiatus, TEDxTerry Talks was rebranded into <b><span style=\"color: red;\">TEDx<\/span>UBC<\/b>.
