Individual Professional Development Reflection
Through my learning in Geography 270, I have gained a basic working knowledge of ArcGIS software and functions, data parsing, management and extraction, and have successfully created a number of maps on a variety of topics. I have developed the quality of my analysis by using ArcGIS as a vehicle for critical thought – allowing for the visualization of ideas, backed up by data. I am now able to more accurately assess projects that include maps, by considering these from a critical cartographic lens. I have learned that I am a meticulous individual who strives to complete instructions to the highest level of accuracy, but I am also creative, and visually-sensitive; I am passionate about creating maps that are both accurate and aesthetic. I dedicated hours beyond scheduled lab times towards each of my labs, and spent hours combing through ArcGIS user manuals in order to complete functions in the final project of the course.
Thanks to Professor Hermansen, and Tobias Mueller for their hours of instruction in this course.
