If somebody were to ask me, “What type of car would you drive?” I would immediately respond with “Electric, duh!”. However not a lot of people are purchasing electric cars. Below is an interesting infographic showcasing different statistics about car sales and preferences around the world.

I found that there is some push back towards purchasing electric cars, because some consumers may think there is something NEWER in the market. A car owner will keep the car for approximately 4-6 years on average, so I can see why they would be against buying this ‘new-for-now’ technology. I live in an apartment where there are electrical outlets in the parking lot, almost on every stall. This made me think this was the norm everywhere else, but it evidently is not how every parking garage is built. Consumers may also feel anxiety around reliable charging, range limitations, investing in something that might be irrelevant in the near future, etc.

I believe car companies should target theseĀ pain points, and developĀ a marketing campaign that will help ease the consumer into the car-purchasing process. Developed cities (Stockholm, Vancouver, etc.) that value sustainability and green practices could benefit from this initiation.
