About Us
Elena Cantel:
My name is Elena Cantel. I hail from New Haven, Connecticut, but went to Rhode Island School of Design where I studied Art History. I moved to Vancouver three months ago, and currently work as an Art Handler for the Vancouver Art Gallery. If I’m not working, I search high and low for the best vegetarian options on Main Street. I hate coffee, and would much rather be woken up in the morning by a mimosa. You should know that I think gluten should only be consumed by witches and demons, and that my favourite cheese is Epoisses, much like Napoleon.

Jacqueline Ovar:
Hey, you can call me Jac! (Like Cracker Jack?) I was born and raised in Montrèal, and by raised I mean up until the ripe, old age of two! I was then whisked away by my mother to the land of Calgary, Alberta where I lived with her and her then 21-year-old boyfriend. When I turned 18, I moved to Vancouver to attend UBC. It’s been a wild ride! I’m in my fourth year, now having settled on Organic Chemistry as a major. I must say it is pretty rad. My hobbies include stationary collecting, and coffee drinking. Oh, yes, I am also a fan of chocolate, and by fan I really want you to read “addict”. My cat Tabitha (we call her Tabby) also says ‘Hi!’

daq g.:
welcome to daq’s corner. my name comes from ‘daiquiri’ if you’re wondering. (it’s always a conversation starter, to say the least.) I grew up in fresno (california). i spent a year in LA, trying to make it in the gay porn industry, but ultimately was rejected because of a deformed belly button. after that, i moved to victoria, bc for a year, where i apprenticed at flesh works tattoos, but tbh most of the time I was just cleaning and being a receptionist. anyway, now i’m in van working at this bagel hut called rosemary rocksalt, and going to emily carr for illustration. my personal opinion stands that it doesn’t count as alcoholism until you’re out of college. (i guess i’ll be staying in college my whole life.)

Benji Havan:
Greetings, Earthings! I’m Benji. I moved to Vancouver from my hometown of Stratford, New Zealand. I am currently finishing up a degree in Criminology at SFU. In my spare time, I hang out with my Husky named Jarred and try to make the perfect preserves to serve with what’s left of my freezer full of Belgian waffles. Someday, I dream of getting a law degree, but I can also see myself being perfectly content growing old trying to make it as some sort of foodie. I have a small obsession with scarves ever since my mother has knitted me one since the age of five. If I was a tree, I would be a Japanese Maple, because it grows fruit, flowers, and leaves. I consider myself a person of many talents, much like the tree must view itself.
