{"id":13,"date":"2014-02-28T20:46:48","date_gmt":"2014-03-01T03:46:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/theworldinagarden\/?p=13"},"modified":"2014-02-28T20:46:48","modified_gmt":"2014-03-01T03:46:48","slug":"second-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/theworldinagarden\/2014\/02\/28\/second-post\/","title":{"rendered":"Second Post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">The World in a Garden is an organization that focuses on educating the community and working working on various urban projects to help teach community members about the importance of nutrition health and how to grow your own food. \u00a0They have farms located between East and West Boulevard at 57th &amp; \u00a055th Avenue in Vancouver. It spans alongside the railroad tracks. \u00a0Each farm contains various foods from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds to maintain and spread culture diversity.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net\/hphotos-ak-prn2\/t1\/1920279_10152211390106280_1685714233_n.jpg\" width=\"432\" height=\"576\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">While they are currently a smaller organization, they eventually hope to work on a global level and create similar projects in various third world countries. \u00a0Ultimately they wish to create ten similar, large impacting gardens in ten different countries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The ultimate goal of the living fence project is to develop a design that can be recreated and implemented in other various farms to maximize the usable space. \u00a0As the project stands now, the goal is to create a fence out of bamboo from which various herbs will grow. \u00a0Community members can then come and pick the herb to use in their home cooking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The project is fairly open to change and as a result most of the constraints are mobile.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The non-negotiable constraints are:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0-the perimeter length must be 25ft by 55ft<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0-the fence must be made out of bamboo<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0-a watering system needs to be in place<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 -it must be possible for the design to be re-created<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The negotiable constraints are:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 -spacing between bamboo<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 -irrigation method<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 -hole dimensions in bamboo for herbs<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 -work schedule (to small degree)<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 -cost<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 -general design of overall project<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The fence needs to be easy to replicate and flexible in implementation. \u00a0Multiple designs will have to be proposed to fulfill this requirement. \u00a0We must also consider that the re-creation of this fence will not be done by engineers so the design has to be simple enough for everyone to understand. \u00a0As a result the fence has to functional and practical without unnecessary clutter.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In order to achieve these goals a large amount of brainstorming and minor testing will be required to ensure success. \u00a0This could mean the early ordering of bamboo to test a few various model ideas to understand which works best. \u00a0Ultimately success will be based on the number of diverse and creative concepts that are brought forth to the group.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net\/hphotos-prn2\/t1\/1921956_10152211390601280_2146625823_n.jpg\" width=\"576\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The World in a Garden is an organization that focuses on educating the community and working working on various urban projects to help teach community members about the importance of nutrition health and how to grow your own food. \u00a0They &hellip;
