Mech undergrads work hard, but they play hard, too.  In addition to a  rigorous academic curriculum, students may join student design  competition teams, play sports, join clubs, participate in student  government, take on summer research positions, and get real world work  experience through a cooperative education (coop) program.  Many  students also move out on their own for the first time during their  undergraduate years, with many choosing to live in student residences.<\/p>\n<h3>A Balancing Act<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-387\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" title=\"Thomson Studying\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/thinkmecheng\/files\/2011\/05\/071030_LRupp_signedconsent_0087-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Thomson Studying\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/thinkmecheng\/files\/2011\/05\/071030_LRupp_signedconsent_0087-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/thinkmecheng\/files\/2011\/05\/071030_LRupp_signedconsent_0087-685x1024.jpg 685w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>The key to a successful undergraduate degree is balance.  Balance  between work and play, between academics and extra-curriculars.   Balancing your time between trying new things and taking care of  yourself.<\/p>\n<h3>Expand Your Mind<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Your undergrad is a time to grow, to reach out and discover new  things about the world, to stretch your mind and challenge it with new  ideas and new ways of thinking.
