Directed Drawing
Materials:
• Pencil
• Paper
• Presentation board
• Colouring utensils
• Final product of drawing for teacher reference
Activity:
• Teacher uses the final product for reference but does not share this with the class.
• Each student is provided with a piece of paper and pencil
• On the presentation board the teacher draws out the final product step by step. For example, two circles in the middle of the page, then two straight lines etc.
• Once the picture is complete, allow students to color their page. This is a time for student self expression

Wayne Thiebaud is best known for his colorful works depicting common place things such as hot dogs, shoes and pies. His work provides a great example of adding color, texture and shading to a simple drawing.
