Three Foreign Telcos Besides Verizon Eyed Entering Canada

An imminent invasion of American communication companies are happening in the Canadian market. The big three companies, namely Rogers, Telus, and Bell used to dominate the mobile market, and control about 90% of Canadian phone, TV, and Internet services. However, it is undeniable that Canadian customers have much limited plan and more expensive bills compare to foreign customers. The campaign, “Fair for Canada”, ran more than a dozen full-page ads in the Globe and Mail newspaper

Verizon, a giant communication company from the United States, would enter the Canadian market in the soon future. Meanwhile, it offers Canadian customers much better mobile plans and more freedom to make changes to the plan. Most importantly, it is asking for only half of the price that Canadian costumers used to pay the big three.

What will the government do to the foreign ambition? What will we do when we are challenged to either choose to be patriotic or be economic?

Small Online Business: Small, Special, and Beautiful

In Jack Ma’s online shopping website, there are millions of small business that selling almost everything you can think of, from a small accessory for a worn car wheel to diapers. Of course, competition exists in this giant online market; however, the business owners are trying to make their products or services as different as possible in order to create a “sustainable ecosystem” instead of a “fierce battlefield.”

Now two business owners would not keep lowering their price in order to compete with each other, rather they both will come up something new and unique so as to attract different customers. In Jack Ma’s online shopping website, which called Taobao, there are a number of stores doing customization.  Even though it is the beginning, the interaction and communication between the buyers and sellers have significant impact in today’s market.

Chinese E-commerce is Going Global

Jack Ma is the founder of Alibaba, the biggest online shopping company in the world.  According to a study published by Focus Money magazine, “Chinese consumers shop online 8.4 times each month, compared to 5.2 times in the United States; 4.3 times in Great Britain; 2.9 times in Germany; 2.8 times in the Netherlands; 2.6 times in France; and 2.3 times in Switzerland.”

Now, he is not only a successful entrepreneur, but also a legendary icon for the young Chinese generation. When faced with the challenge from western rivals, he replied “eBay may be a shark in the ocean but I am a crocodile in the Yangtze River. If we fight in the ocean we lose but if we fight in the river we win.”
