As has been mentioned in Caoqingqing Fang’s blog, Tokyo will host 2020 Olympics. From her point of view, the government expenditure will be excess in tax revenue and it will be a good chance for Japan to recover its economics. I totally agree with the point, but I’d like to put more emphasis on the fact which Japan has to deal with in order to host the Olympics better.

During the process, Tokyo faced resistance because of the nuclear issue happened in 2011. The defensive in the final days of the campaign was the mounting concerns over the leak of radioactive water from the tsunami-crippled Fukushima nuclear plant. In the final presentation, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gave the IOC assurances that the Fukushima leak was not a threat to Tokyo and took personal responsibility for keeping the games safe.

There is no doubt that Japanese government has to solve the problem caused by the nuclear plant, which is not only a national issue but an international one. A huge amount of money must have been put in, and changes in economic structure must have been implemented. Since the safety and efficiency have been promised, what we can do is to look forward to the 2020 Olympics and figure out whether the hypothesis of the Japanese economic recovery is true.
