My goals are to continue to inquire into my teaching practice by gaining experience teaching profession. Through this experience I will continue to grow. I am intent on learning and teaching my own language U. I feel this is an area that is vital to my family and me to keep our culture. Along with gaining teaching experience, learning my language, and start a therapeutic riding school.
My inquiry as a First Nation educator I want to have more experience in this profession. I am excited to be moving back home to pursue and fulfilling this. I am so excited and looking forward to gaining relationship with future students, faculty, and community. By doing this I plan on teaching within my community school or in the local area public school district.
I am passionate about learning my own language; I know there are far less elders and people who speak my language and this would be a way to keep our culture living. “The first language of the Lil’wat, and other Interior Salish people, is Ucwalmicwts. It is in this language that the stories that bind our people to the land were first spoken.” Lil’wat7ul, 2010. The Lil’wat Cultural Centre runs a language immersion program called from ages five to nine. I would like the opportunity to teach this class in the future.
My last goal is to bring both professions together: equine science and teaching. Starting my own therapeutic riding school for special needs and behavioral students. I feel this would be a great learning experience and a great way to help people in my community. I have the resources with my horses and riding arena.
With these goals I know I can go either way for my opportunities to teach.
