Hello!

Welcome to my English 301- Technical Writing blog page.

English 301 is a third-year course in technical writing offered through distance learning by the University of British Columbia and taught by Professor Erika Paterson. This course focuses on the study of principles of written and online communications in a business and professional setting. The course is divided into four units; principles of technical writing, designing a report proposal, building your resume along with job application skills, and drafting a formal report. We are expected to work independently, with our instructor, and in writing teams throughout the course.

The course objectives include:

  1. Introduction to distinctive writing elements in business, professional and technical contexts through readings and activities.
  2. Opportunities to practice strategies and techniques pertaining to writing in such settings.
  3. To engage with classmates through a series of discussions and reviews.
  4. To give more information on UBC’s Careers Services unit and its resources.
  5. Develop a LinkedIn profile and a professionally designed website.
  6. To improve self-editing skills and reflections.

To meet the objectives in the course, we will be completing a series of assignments. The major assignments of this course include the Formal Report, the Job Application Package, and the Web Folio. The course aims to help students meet the challenges of ever-changing global communications and technologies.

I hope this course will help me write better in professional settings, especially in writing formal reports. Also, I am excited to collaborate with others and learn more from the wide range of expertise.
