Biography

Hi Everyone,

My name is Thansy Mahendran, and I am a fourth-year student majoring in Geographical Sciences in the Department of Geography studying at the University of British Columbia. Currently, I am a Building Analyst working for an Engineering and Consulting firm in British Columbia. In my time at Integral Group, I specialize in determining a building’s efficiency under various design conditions by analyzing building envelope details through energy models. With the completion of my undergraduate degree, I hope to expand my career in Building Performance and Sustainability. After a few more years working in the industry, I would like to pursue a master’s degree in Building Science to further my education.

The first couple of years in my undergraduate degree, I took a few courses in Geography and it piqued my interest. Specifically, my interests lie in geoscience, conservation, sustainable building design, and policy. I was surprised by the broad range of subjects we encountered such as water management, air pollution, analyzing environmental problems, and the opportunities in the field. Furthermore, I like to find ways to integrate my studies in geography and my work experience in building performance and sustainability.

Over the years, I believe I developed a strong set of writing skills but there is always room for improvement. I expect this course will improve my technical writing skills, especially in communication and reports.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you over the semester and hope to learn new skills along the way!

Cheers,

Thansy
