One of my personal goals as an educator is to instill a feeling of confidence in students’ view of their own abilities, and to facilitate their developing voices. I hope to help students discover their feelings and reactions towards their learning, and to show them how to give voice, with confidence, to their inner thoughts.
My teaching practice is concerned with combining right intention (students’ own motivations, interests, and desires) with right action (learning strategies, building knowledge, forming opinions, and so on). I hope to support students on their journey towards critical thinking along the following categories:
- Observation
- Understanding
- Belief
- Action
After progressing through these stages, I feel that students will have the requisite knowledge and skills to challenge inquiry-based learning. I strongly believe that all learners are capable of inquiry-based learning; I also feel, however, that it is also important to appreciate inquiry as an extension of learning as opposed to seeing it as an “easier” or more “fun” way to learn.
