There is a term that is common in the start-up world: growth hacking. Being a “growth hacker”, according to its author Sean Ellis means “a person whose true north is growth. Everything they do is scrutinized by its potential impact on scalable growth.”
Interested in learning Marketing from a start-up’s point of view, I enrolled in a course on Udemy by Eazl called Growth Hacking Masterclass – Becoming a Digital Marketing Ninja.
Here are some of my thoughts on this course:
- Very interactive and easy to follow: the videos made by the founder – David is short and simple and engaging, really easy to follow. Although he has some very long interview videos with industry experts (sometimes over a beer with a lot of background noise), most of the content is interactive and easier to absorb and follow especially in an online environment where our attention is pulled in a million directions all the time.
- Covers the basic concepts of digital marketing: this course is very good for beginners with very limited knowledge of digital marketing, because it covers A WIDE range of basic concepts from A/B testing, Email marketing, Google AdWords to Google Analytics, Social Media, SEO etc. and shows you which tools to use. There are also side-by-sides in each topic where David shows you the interface of each tool that helps you familiarize with it better.
- Focus on lean principles: keep iterating and learning and fixing. The power of digital is that you get data at your fingertips, and the more you learn and iterate, the better and faster you can improve and optimize.
- Not a course for skills: The other side of being very wide is that it cannot go very deep. So once you understand the basics and can speak the language of digital marketing, its time to get deeper into an area that you are interested in and become an expert in it.
