Resource Description
This is an instructional tool for teachers to use when lesson planning to teach students about social responsibility and cultural issues. This tool suggest many resources for teachers looking for activities and ideas that allow students to engage in thought-provoking discussions.
As part of a K-3 unit, one lesson plan was to give students the opportunity to form a Buddy Share program outside the school (using the PenPal tool we posted) and to create a piece together using any mode of expression (writing a book using a tool like Storybird, or an online collage maker, etc.) It is part of on ongoing three week unit to promote positive social change. For ELLs you can start to support their understanding by using a Story Mountain graphic organizer to break down the work into smaller chunks.
This resource can be used in transformative learning for students in that the lesson plans do not simply follow a “stand and deliver” method of communicating the information. It targets many different modalities such as: kinaesthetic, spatial and artistic, interpersonal and linguistic. This tool allows students to “DO SOMETHING” about social justice issues.
