Resource Description

Math Science Music is a new website that was started in 2016 that incorporates math and science into music and creates a new and exciting way for students to learn music and music theory through interactive activities. It offers lesson plans, videos, games and apps as well as other interactive learning tools. Not only are music teachers able to engage their students through music using these tools, but so can math, science and STEM teachers. This website provides a variety of tools that provide real-world applications of mathematical and scientific concepts using music as the base for learning. Teachers can also use these interactive tools to collaborate with each other and getting students to integrate their understands of the subjects.

While Math Science Music is still a fairly new website, its still developing and expanding its reach. It already provides an exciting range of resources for teachers to use and teach their students with. The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz (creators of this website) partnered up with MIT’s Media Lab (Scratch) and NYU’s MusEDLab to create the free interactive tools found in this website.

Math Science Music is a transformative learning tool as it aims to teach students math and science in a musical and technological way. STEM is a key component of the tools provided in the Math Science Music website and the resources are fantastic for teachers to use. Its a great way to start and interdisciplinary content that crosses math, science and music.
