About the course

The 2025 version of CSIS 301: Introduction to Trans Studies was taught by Dr. Lee Iskander. It offered an overview of key questions and debates in trans studies. We learned about trans histories and activism, considered intersections with race and disability, and thought a lot about how trans stories are represented in scholarship and popular media. We also taught one another through interactive presentations and discussions, brought readings into conversation with popular texts, made “auto-theory zines” to think about ourselves and our experiences anew in light of trans theory, and created this syllabus to continue to share our knowledge with one another, and also with all of you.
