{"id":1,"date":"2010-09-05T04:58:01","date_gmt":"2010-09-05T04:58:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/trees\/?p=1"},"modified":"2010-10-16T10:13:28","modified_gmt":"2010-10-16T18:13:28","slug":"hello-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/trees\/2010\/09\/05\/hello-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Pine trees on Thunderbird Blvd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/trees\/files\/2010\/09\/Tree-007.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-12\" title=\"Tree 007\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/trees\/files\/2010\/09\/Tree-007-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/trees\/files\/2010\/09\/Tree-007-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/trees\/files\/2010\/09\/Tree-007-679x1024.jpg 679w, https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/trees\/files\/2010\/09\/Tree-007.jpg 1168w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There used to be a fine row of pine trees growing along Thunderbird Blvd and Eagles Drive.\u00a0 One tree remains at the corner of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.formwerksarchitectural.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Formwerks<\/a> townhouse development that stands there now.<\/p>\n<p>For years prior to the townhouses my partner and I would collect pine cones from these trees for Christmas wreaths.\u00a0 There are only a few places on campus where one could find cones such as these.<\/p>\n<p>I was saddened by the trees removal -so much so that I took <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/crmenzies\/sets\/72157624883677638\/detail\/\" target=\"_blank\">a series of photos<\/a> of their destruction.\u00a0 The lone tree at the corner of Thunderbird and Eagles Drive is a testament to the survival of trees on campus.\u00a0 There are a number of examples of other trees that survived the developer&#8217;s axe -the trees in the pocket park on the western edge of Hawthorn Place is another nice example.\u00a0 As are the western row of old trees along the block on Main Mall south of Thunderbird.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There used to be a fine row of pine trees growing along Thunderbird Blvd and Eagles Drive.\u00a0 One tree remains at the corner of the Formwerks townhouse development that stands there now.
