Rihanna’s 777 Tour: An E-Marketing Nightmare!

rihanna

In 2012, Rihanna the mega pop star went on a tour across the world called the 777 Tour. It was a tour planned right before the release of her seventh album and acted as promotion for that album. What Rihanna basically did was go to 7 countries, in 7 days, and do 7 shows, in honor of her 7th album. This had never been done before, no artist has ever filled a plane with a bunch of press and fans and flew them across the world so that they could be in the experience. These concerts were invite only which made the world very interested in the people who went to the shows. This idea is very risky because if Rihanna were to mess up, then everyone of those people in the media will be writing about it, and the world will be listening.

What ended up happening was a nightmare! Apparently the media and fans were mistreated and left waiting around due to the lack of a decently planned schedule. To make things worse Rihanna barely interacted with them and only gave them one apology. I’m sure Rihanna was tired, but if I were to pull a risky PR stunt like this, knowing the whole E-marketing world would be paying attention, then I would be making sure that the press on board that plane were happy!  Since the concert’s were so exclusive, this stunt completely relied on what the press had to say, which ended up not being the best it could have been.

I hope that every pop star takes notes from this stunt that Rihanna pulled, and that if they hope to pull something off like this, then they should learn from Rihanna’s mistakes, and possibly not try to promote an album with such a risky stunt that could go wrong in so many ways.

Ariana Grande: Is the Diva’s Reputation Hurting Her Image?

ariana-grandeFor those of you that don’t know who Ariana Grande is, she is a very big pop star that had her claim to fame through children’s TV shows. Grande released her first LP album in 2013, and her second album in 2014. Her songs are constantly on the radio and you would think that she is getting more popular and famous, however, this might not be the case.

Recently there have been numerous reports that Ariana Grande has extreme diva behavior and that she is one of the worst pop stars in the industry. The stories claim multiple things such as:

  • Ariana Grande walked off of a photo shoot after making the photographer wait for hours
  • She only lets people take photos from her left side, and if they use red light she would “kill herself”
  • It was reported that she told people that she wants her fans to die
  • She is apparently very brief and rude to her fans

The scary thing with these stories is that they might just be rumors, or they could be very true. If Ariana Grande is really doing these things then she really needs to stop because it is officially effecting the way that the public feels about her. Her brand image is starting to be tarnished over these stories, and even if they aren’t all true, the fact that these stories are public should really make her try hard to prove them wrong. Grande has definitely become the person that the media likes to pick on lately because she does not make it any better for herself. She hasn’t had many good stories coming out for her and you would think if she cared about her brand image that she would work towards making her good deeds noticed.

Canada Cares! New Laws That Say No To Spam!

canada-anti-spam-law-300If you own an email account and have signed up for a newsletter of any kind in the past, then you probably know at least somewhat about the new laws that Canada put into place. The only things that I know about it is what we leaned in COMM 464 class, and from some of the emails I received from different companies. From my knowledge there were laws put into place where you have to “Opt-In” into wanting emails from companies.

I’m not one to read my emails in full detail, unless there is a serious interest in the content. Some professors send me giant emails and I tend to over look most of the content, especially at the end, even thought I know it is always important. However, for some reason, when all of the corporations that I normally get emails from, had to email me to opt-in, I found myself reading them. I was caught off guard because I had received so many at once, and they all said similar things so it made me actually pay attention.

I personally think it was a great law that was added because I found myself on some newsletter lists that I didn’t really want to be on. Sorting through my emails was actually exciting for once because I was able to Opt-in for the emails I wanted, and leave the ones that uninterested me, into the dust! I think that corporations should always be accountable for the content that they send out and that it has to be easy for a customer to unsubscribe if needed. If a customer is unable to do this, then it would be almost considered as a breach of privacy. That is why I support the laws that have recently been set in place!

The New Fragrance By Xbox

Destiny-Xbox-One-Cover

My first blog is about the brand new video game called Destiny, and the methods that Microsoft used to advertise the game. Destiny was released for multiple platforms (such as PlayStation and Xbox) and because of this, the makers of Destiny told Microsoft that they were not allowed to advertise the game for their specific platform, which is Xbox. At the end of the day I would think that this isn’t that big of a problem because the game has its own marketing campaigns, meaning that people will be aware of the game and buy the game no matter what because of the awareness.

On the other hand, Microsoft felt that they could advertise the game without actually advertising the game. They created an advertisement that almost mocked the rules that were set for them, by advertising that Xbox had a new fragrance called “Destiny”. The reason that they wanted to do this is because Microsoft wanted consumers to buy the game on their console, which would boost sales of their console over PlayStation. I think that this internet marketing campaign was actually very clever because it started as paid media, and because it was innovative it spread by word of mouth, making it become earned media. As an Xbox user, I hope that this interesting marketing campaign was successful for Microsoft because the more people that get Xbox One consoles, the more people there are to play the game with!
