Pushed too Far at Chinese Factory

As we all know, China produces huge amounts of goods in attempts to satisfy the growing demands of the world. This equates to an enormous labor force accompanied with long and perilous hours under poor working conditions. The Foxconn factory in China produces electronic devices such as I-Phones and I-Pads. The great demands of the factory resulted in nine suicides in 2010. A worker jumped to his death after being physically abused by security guards for losing a prototype device. There is a common theme where workers feel a sense of pressure- pressure to make more money, pressure to work harder, pressure from family or difficulties in personal relationships.

The company goal to maximize profit by paying minimum wage and overtime hours to workers is unethical. It transforms workers into robots as their social lives disintegrate. Coming from small rural villages, they live and work in factories in attempts to bring home money. The Foxconn company must respond to the recent tragedies by improving wages and cutting down hours through hiring extra workers. The world of mobile devices is expected to elevate dramatically in the coming years and production companies in China must find a balance between worker satisfaction and efficient manufacturing.
