Facebook posts with only 40 characters\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">get 86 percent more engagement<\/strong>,\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit; color: #ed1e25 !important;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.adweek.com\/adfreak\/infographic-ideal-length-everything-online-tweets-youtube-videos-160972\" target=\"_blank\">according to researchers<\/a>\u00a0Daniella Franco and Kimi Mongello.<\/p>\n<p class=\"google_elide\">2. Yahoo&#8217;s revenue from display ads in the third quarter, $447 million,\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit; color: #ed1e25 !important;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.adweek.com\/news\/technology\/yahoo-finally-reveals-how-much-money-tumblr-can-bring-ads-160911\" target=\"_blank\">was down 5 percent<\/a>year over year. Search, where Yahoo has a deal with Microsoft\u2019s Bing, looked much better for the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company\u2014<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">price-per-click was up 17 percent<\/strong>\u00a0leading to a 4 percent rise in revenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"google_elide\">3.<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">\u00a0<\/strong><a style=\"font-style: inherit; color: #ed1e25 !important;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.adweek.com\/news\/technology\/how-four-america-s-top-marketers-use-data-160871\" target=\"_blank\">Kraft is collecting<\/a>\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">22,000 different kinds of data\u00a0<\/strong>from its 100 million online visits each year. The packaged-goods marketer employs such stats from 500 segments of consumers to buy ads against.<\/p>\n<p class=\"google_elide\">4. Tumblr now has<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">\u00a0420 million monthly visitors<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit; color: #ed1e25 !important;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.adweek.com\/news\/technology\/mobile-ads-could-make-or-break-yahoo-tumblr-marriage-160852\" target=\"_blank\">has grown to 205 million blogs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"google_elide\">5. Two-hundred-and-sixty of the world&#8217;s biggest brands are\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit; color: #ed1e25 !important;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.adweek.com\/news\/technology\/10-tumblr-advertisers-show-why-site-could-make-100-million-2015-160912\" target=\"_blank\">marketing on Tumblr<\/a>, per Yahoo chief Marissa Mayer<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"google_elide\">6. Visa\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit; color: #ed1e25 !important;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.adweek.com\/news\/technology\/how-four-america-s-top-marketers-use-data-160871\" target=\"_blank\">orchestrated real-time marketing<\/a>\u00a0based on\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">social data<\/strong>\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">in 65 countries<\/strong>\u00a0during the World Cup<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"google_elide\">7. Foursquare hit\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">55 million registered users<\/strong>, increasing its\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit; color: #ed1e25 !important;\" href=\"http:\/\/socialnewsdaily.com\/16470\/foursquare-hits-40-million-users\/\" target=\"_blank\">audience by 15 million<\/a>since roughly the same point in 2013<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"google_elide\">8. During August\u2014the first month it unbundled into two apps, Foursquare and Swarm\u2014the company reported that it saw a\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">54 percent lift in users<\/strong>\u00a0compared to the same month last year. Jeff Glueck, chief operating officer for the mobile-social app, explained that &#8220;a third of our users are using just Foursquare, one-third are only using Swarm, and a third are using both apps every 30 days. We really feel this confirms and validates our assumptions going into the unbundling.<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">&#8220;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"google_elide\">9.\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">Sixty percent\u00a0<\/strong>of the 3,044 millennials surveyed by Cassandra Report said that they leaned on social media to follow the news, per\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit; color: #ed1e25 !important;\" href=\"http:\/\/digiday.com\/brands\/millennial-media-consumption-habits-debunked-5-charts\/\" target=\"_blank\">Digiday<\/a><strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"google_elide\">10. During its third-quarter earnings report, Amazon\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit; color: #ed1e25 !important;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2014\/10\/23\/7052385\/amazon-q3-2014-earnings\" target=\"_blank\">revealed<\/a>\u00a0an\u00a0<strong style=\"font-style: inherit;\">operating loss of $544 millio<\/strong>n, more than 20 times what was hemorrhaged during the third quarter 2013.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"google_elide\">Of all the new statistics, I found that the fact that Kraft collects so much information about its users is very interesting. This really shows how technology has allowed companies to learn a lot about consumers, and use that to their advantage. They could be using this information to personalize marketing content, and generate more sales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"google_elide\">This also reminds me of the recent upcoming of many companies who collect marketing data for other companies. This shows how much value all this data is to companies, and how the internet and technology has completely changed the business world.
