Riddle of the week: What has a bunch of holes but still holds a lot of water?
Reminders
Halloween Celebrations: Tuesday October 31st
Division 3 and I discussed what we should do to celebrate Halloween next Tuesday. This is what we came up with:
Potluck
We are going to have a potluck at 11:30am on Tuesday. Sharing food together is a great way to celebrate. Savoury food is needed more than sweet. Check-in with me if you’d like to bring a sweet treat please.
Pumpkin Carving
Please make sure you bring a SMALL pumpkin to school on Tuesday, along with any pumpkin carving tools you may have. We will be carving pumpkins from 1:00-3:00pm on Tuesday.
Volunteers: For this activity to work we will need parent volunteers in the classroom Tuesday afternoon. Please email me at hlangille@vsb.bc.ca if you would like to help us with our pumpkin carving.
Math (for students not participating in the FSAs)
Math Notebooks are due on Thursday, as usual.
Problem solving work is due on Friday this week — we have been focusing on multiplicative thinking and will continue to study this until it seems like we have a good foundation before moving on. Grade 6 students have been using multiplicative thinking to recognize patterns and express these patterns using algebraic notation.
Language (for students not participating in the FSAs)
This week Language work will be due on Friday. We will be having our Spelling test Friday morning.
We have been working on organization and paragraph writing using various strategies. Draft #2 of their second writing assignment will be due on Friday this week.
French
Last week we learned some basic Halloween vocabulary. The students created vocabulary books that they will use this week to create a haunted house art project.
Culture
The students are working in 4 different groups to explore the kingdoms of bacteria, archaea, protista and fungi. These groups have been using resource packs and materials to explore and create ways to present their learning to the class.
Arts Education
This Thursday we have our 4th Artist in Residence session with Amanda.
