Fresh Grade
All students have brought in their signed consent forms for Fresh Grade and have a portfolio up and running. This week I have been connecting parents to the portfolio accounts. Please let me know if you are having trouble or if there are any glitches. So far, it seems to be working.
Students are learning how to use iPads in a mindful and meaningful way to post about their learning. I’m encouraging the students to reflect on their work and consider the reasons why they want to share and post before they post.
The 3 big questions we are focusing on with Fresh Grade are:
- Where am I?
- Where am I going?
- How am I going to get there?
There are 6 Core Competencies outlined in the new BC curriculum: HERE
Communication
Creative Thinking
Critical Thinking
Social Responsibility
Positive, Personal and Cultural Identity
Personal Awareness and Responsibility
While being mindful about what we choose to post to Fresh Grade, students will be asked to reflect on which core competency they most used while completing the given work they have chosen to share. Try using this language at home!
Math
Math Notebooks are due on Thursday, as usual.
Since it is a short week, problem solving will be due on Thursday.
Language
This week Language work will be due on Thursday. We will be having our Spelling test Thursday morning.
We will continue our pre-writing and draft writing for a persuasive writing piece while learning about voice and the power it has with writing.
Culture
We will be doing science with Ingrid Monday November 27th from 1:15-2:45pm. The focus for this afternoon is chemistry.
Students will continue learning about evolution and natural selection. Students will also be working in groups to explain symbiotic, commensalistic, parasitic relationships between animals.
Artist in Residence
Here’s an update on how the remainder of the sessions will look like:
Nov 30 begin stitching and/or folding and pressing with an iron
Dec 8 continue stitching/folding and begin planning exhibition
Dec 14 final touches, stretching if possible, begin artist statements
Dec 21 exhibition and celebration of learning
It would be great to have parent volunteers for the next few sessions. Please email me at hlangille@vsb.bc.ca if you are available.
