Students will continue their novel study project this week with a novel of their choice. The written portion of this project will focus on the writing traits we have learned so far in our Writer’s Workshop. This project will be due and presentations will start February 13th. Students are expected to have their novel finished and completed by this date. This may mean bringing this work home to finish over the long weekend.
Culture
This Monday we will be doing Science with Ingrid from 1:15-2:45pm!
Every week we will be studying a new body system. Students will be required to create a representation or model of each body system. This week we will begin studying the circulatory system. This could be in the form of a detailed drawing, a poster, a muscle book, brochure, a comic strip, or a story all about the heart and the circulatory system. Please bring materials from home if you feel inspired!
Every two weeks students will have a test on the two body systems we have studied. Our next test will be February 23rd and will cover both the circulatory and respiratory systems. The test will be written and will only focus on the main functions and details covered in class. Students are expected to study the notes they have taken. Students should use their time in class and at home to study.
French
We will continue reading The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. We will read chapters 13-15 in English and study some of the more famous quotations from those chapters in French. Through this study, students will be learning common, high-frequency vocabulary and sentence structures.
Physical Education
Students will continue with their track and field practices on both Monday and Thursday this week.
Classroom Community
All year students have been working on having a growth mindset. This month, we have put our growth mindsets to the test by learning about setting goals. This week we will be learning how to set achievable goals by using our dreams as a compass and we will write short-term goals that are designed to bring us closer to our dreams.
