Riddle of the week: What is always coming but never arrives?
Student-led Conferences
As you know I was on medical leave with a chronic cough and torn oblique and intercostal muscles for two weeks in March. This caused us to miss our student-led conferences. After speaking with Ms. Weatherall around scheduling and upcoming events and projects, we decided to cancel the conferences. If you would like to speak with me about this please email me to discuss. Thank you for your understanding.
WEEKLY WORK
Math
Math Notebooks will be due for all three grades on Thursday this week. Problem Solving: we will be reviewing the work we have been doing with fractions and decimals. Work will be due Friday.
Language
4/5s: Grade 4 and 5 students will use their newly created grammar booklet as a resource while we study the noun, article and adjective this week. This will be used as a resource in weeks to come when we study each part of speech in more detail.
6s: Grade 6 students will review parts of speech using Montessori symbols. Grade 6 students will also continue to study etymology. Etymology work and quiz will be due on Friday as usual. Students will continue our class-wide novel study on the true story “fatty legs” written by Christy Jordan-Fenton and Margaret Pokiak-Fenton. The reading strategies we are going to be using in this novel study include: connecting, visualizing, questioning, inferring, and transforming. This week we will read chapters 3 and 4. Students are responsible for chapter 3 and 4 questions and work.
Culture
We will be studying the digestive system for the next two weeks leading up to our time with Project Chef. This week students will be working on their creative digestive system projects to showcase their knowledge. Students will be responsible for completing a detailed and colourful diagram. Next week we will spend our culture time creating digestive system art and studying for the digestive system test, Friday April 13th.
Due to the size and composition of Division 3, we will be receiving remedy time from Ms. Joellen Housego on Monday afternoons. She will be teaching French beginning this Monday afternoon.
Students have a few ongoing coding projects that they are working on through Hour of Code (https://code.org/learn). So far, students have shown a tremendous ability to persevere and problem solve when confronted with challenging aspects of the code.
