WEEKLY WORK

Math

Math Notebooks will be due for all three grades on Thursday this week.

PS: Grade 4 and 6 will continue their geometry this week. Grade 5 will practice their beginning algebra work with one-step equations. PS is due on Friday.

Language

4/5s:  Grade 4 and 5 students will use  grammar booklet as a resource while we study prepositions this week.  Language work will be due on Friday.

6s: Grade 6 students will continue their sentence analysis work.   Grade 6 students will also continue to study etymology.  Etymology work and quiz will be due on Friday.

Students will begin our  class-wide novel study on the true story “A Stranger at Home” written by Christy Jordan-Fenton and Margaret Pokiak-Fenton.  This is the sequel to “fatty legs”. The reading strategies we are going to be using in this novel study include: connecting, visualizing, questioning, inferring, and transforming.  This week we will read chapters 1 and 2.  Students are responsible for chapter 1 and 2 questions and work.

Culture

This week we will begin discussing the Learning Fair and possible topics around the theme of food.  Students are required to have their Learning Fair Proposal completed by May 1st.  Students will be completing most, if not all of their work for the Learning Fair during class time at school.  This is important because most of the learning comes from the process of doing rather than the final project.  It is very important for me to see this process and struggle at school.

French

Due to the size and composition of Division 3, we will be receiving remedy time from Ms. Joellen Housego on Monday afternoons.  She will be teaching French on Monday afternoons.  Students have been learning how to read recipes in French and will be using a French recipe to make mini quiches.

Coding

Students have a few ongoing coding projects that they are working on through Hour of Code (https://code.org/learn).  So far, students have shown a tremendous ability to persevere and problem solve when confronted with challenging aspects of the code.
