BIKE TO SCHOOL WEEK IS COMING!

May 28 – June 1, 2018

Tune up your wheels and mark your calendars!  Tyee student council is promoting Bike to School Week. Bike to School Week is a free, fun, week-long celebration for students of all ages and abilities. The event is a great way to enhance green initiatives already happening at your school, build community, and highlight the benefits of active transportation — like less congestion and healthy, energized students!

Who benefits from taking part in the Bike-to-School Week?

Students

• Encourages independence and responsible decision making

• Celebrates students arriving to school by bike

• Connects students with their peers

Schools

• Builds school community by getting parents, students and teachers working together

• Enhances green initiatives and builds on curriculum

• Makes schools a safer place — when more kids bike and walk to school, traffic is

reduced in our school neighbourhood

Families

• Encourages you to build time into your morning commute for meaningful connection with

your family

• Enables your child to arrive energized and ready to learn

• Promotes active transportation as a lifelong habit

As well as tracking how many bike trips to the school that week, classes will be tracking and charting the various ways we get to Tyee!

Did you know: In Vancouver, almost half of our children travel to school in cars. Most of these trips are less than one mile long.
