Green Building Idea

I recently had an idea for a corporate environment that focused on collaboration and sustainable work initiatives. Essentially, sustainably building a massive office space for multiple companies. This building would be built to accommodate the “three p’s (People, Planet, Pocketbook)” of sustainable development. (WBDG) For example, the convention centre in downtown Vancouver showcases sustainable development in a modern space. (SB&D Magazine)

However, the main part of the idea was the selection process and culture of the space. The companies would apply to use the space and would go through a selection process. The difference between a convention centre and this idea being companies are housed and remain in the space. They do not necessarily visit and leave.

Some ongoing criteria would be

• Business focused on doing good (CSV)
  • Each business should have a focus on doing something good for the community, or is trying to address more national or global issues. That being environmental, social, political, economic etc.
  • Progressive Companies with strong CSR initiatives could also partake.
• Willingness to collaborate
  • In the building, large lecture style rooms would be used to accommodate weekly lectures from each company about what they are doing or what they are interested in. This would promote collaboration or idea creation and could even spark partnerships. It also creates a great network for companies looking to do good in the community with community members being allowed to sit in.
  • One problem with this is obviously confidentiality and the fact that companies do not necessarily want to share strategy, but the info that is revealed is up to each company. Something would have be agreed on in which information is exclusive.

Close example: The Photo on the right is the Apple campus project. (Not finished, early 2017) The Building is one of the most energy efficient in the world running completely on renewable energy. (MacWorld) Imagine this style of building, but without being exclusive to one company.

The goal of this idea is to promote sustainable thinking by creating a physical space and brand by which people can associate those thoughts of sustainability.
