I visited Katlan Paslawski’s site for this linking assignment – and what a treat! For the Mode Bending assignment she played with the lyrics of Lil Nas X’s smash hit Old Town Road to create a parody version that described the contents of her bag. I did a song for my Mode Bending assignment as well, so the connection was clear. I could hear in the song that she encountered the same phrasing and rhyming struggles as I did in writing my track. And like me, she (her words, not mine) isn’t super comfortable with her singing voice. Myself though I have a good deal of experience in recording music on simple at home software and I could hear her use of the pitch correction that comes standard on GarageBand and the like; and I could hear that it wasn’t working overtime to make her voice palatable. Which is to say she’s actually pretty good. She also typed out the lyrics to the whole thing (as I did to mine) which is kind of necessary. But then she went one step further and also made a fun little MeMoji video to go with it – something I never thought of.
She did awesome and it reminded me how good the original is and that I too need to take my bag to the grocery store.
