For a detailed list of our open Officer Positions and a description of their role\u00a0below.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>We encourage all postdocs to attend the <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2016\/03\/ubc-pda-annual-general-meeting-2016-march-30th\/\" target=\"_blank\">AGM on March 30th<\/a>. <\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Light snacks and refreshments will be served!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong> All candidates must be UBC Postdoctoral Fellows.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Service on the Executive Committee:<\/strong> Candidates should be able to attend the majority of the Executive Committee meetings held bimonthly either on or off-campus, as well as the PDA events. style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Nomination deadline:<\/strong>\u00a0Wednesday\u00a0March 23rd, 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Commitment: <\/strong>On average,\u00a0the\u00a0President attends 2 #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"#VP-Finance\">Executive-Committee-Members<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"President\"><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>The UBC PDA President shall:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Act as the public face of the PDA to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>speak on behalf of the PDA at orientation and wherever appropriate<\/li>\n<li>understand the needs of PDA members and ensure equal representation across departments<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Be responsible for meetings of the PDA Executive members to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>chair and set the agenda for meetings<\/li>\n<li>ensure proper operation of the meetings<\/li>\n<li>take minutes at meetings, or designate a member to do so<\/li>\n<li>manage copies of the minutes, agendas, and any other materials<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Be responsible for the execution of decisions by the PDA Executives<\/p>\n<p>Lead the Annual General Meeting and PDA Elections<\/p>\n<p>Work together with the VP-Communications to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>direct content for communication to members of the UBC postdoc community<\/li>\n<li>manage and update the website<\/li>\n<li>respond to emails<\/li>\n<li>direct the advertisement of PDA events.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Work together with the VP-External to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>collaborate and communicate with the Canadian Association of Postdoctoral Scholars<\/li>\n<li>raise awareness of postdoctoral issues and find avenues of support<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Work together with the VP-Social to create a calendar of social events and ensure a broad outreach.<\/p>\n<p>Work together with the VP-Operations to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>ensure liaising with the UBC Postdoctoral Fellows office and Deans office<\/li>\n<li>representing the PDA during meetings with UBC faculty, staff and administrators<\/li>\n<li>coordinate the Executive Members of the PDA<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Work together with the VP-Finance to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>ensure responsible stewardship over the annual budget when planning events<\/li>\n<li>being aware of outflow and inflow<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>**President and\/or style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>The UBC PDA VP-Operations shall:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Organize professional development activities for postdocs.<\/li>\n<li>Set up regular PDA meetings via doodle polls and arrange suitable venues on\/off campus<\/li>\n<li>Organize non-social UBC-PDA events<\/li>\n<li>Attend and participate in meetings of the PDA executive members<\/li>\n<li>Assist in all PDA executive members plan.<\/li>\n<li>Perform duties of the President, in the event of absence or illness of the President<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"#Top\">Back to Top ^<br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\n<a name=\"VP-External\"><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>The UBC PDA VP-External shall:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Raise the voice of UBC postdoctoral fellows at regional and national platforms through participation and dialogues with the <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.caps-acsp.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Association for Postdoctoral Scholars (CAPS-ACSP)<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Build and promote alliance with various BC industrial sectors to create opportunities for researchers outside academia<\/li>\n<li>Work with CAPS-ACSP to create and sustain dialogue with legislators to acknowledge the role of postdoctoral fellows and research associates to Canadian economy<\/li>\n<li>Address or raise awareness for issues relevant to postdoctoral fellows and research associates<\/li>\n<li>Work with the UBC PDA executive team to ensure smooth running of the organization and liaise with its partners<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>**President and\/or VP-External has the chance to attend the annual CAPA\/CAPS Meeting<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#Top\">Back to Top ^<br for the development of the communication strategy<\/li>\n<li>Manage communication activities that promote, enhance, and protect the PDA\u2019s brand reputation<\/li>\n<li>Responsible for disseminating news items relevant to UBC postdocs, in the form of a monthly\u00a0newsletter<\/li>\n<li>Work with the President in planning content for the PDA newsletters<\/li>\n<li>Work with the President to recognize internal and external communications opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Work with the President in managing communications on the PDA\u2019s Facebook page and Twitter<\/li>\n<li>Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities, and prepare presentations and other supporting material as needed during events<\/li>\n<li>Work with the team to maintain and continuously improve the PDA website<\/li>\n<li>Promote events<\/li>\n<li>Support the communications needs of the PDA and the Postdoctoral Fellows Office<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"#Top\">Back to Top ^<\/a><br \/>\n<a orientations<\/li>\n<li>Advertise the PDA to the new postdocs<\/li>\n<li>Deliver the \u201cGetting to Know Vancouver\u201d talk<\/li>\n<li>Organize a social for postdocs after the orientation<\/li>\n<li>Plan, advertise and execute regular social and networking events for postdocs, including the annual:<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2016\/01\/postdoc-social-annual-whistler-trip\/\" target=\"_blank\">Whistler trip<\/a><\/span> (organize to\/from Whistler and reserve accommodation at the UBC lodge)<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2015\/04\/3-minute-postdoc-slam-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">3 Minute Postdoc Slam<\/a>\u201d competition (assist all PDA executive members plan)<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2015\/07\/pda-research-day-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">UBC Postdoc Research Day<\/a><\/span>\u201d (assist all PDA executive members plan)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2015\/11\/postdoc-social-holiday-party-mon-7-december\/\" target=\"_blank\">Holiday party<\/a><\/span> (venue reservation and run games e.g. \u201cwhite elephant\u201d)<\/li>\n<li>Organize monthly social events for the PDA community<\/li>\n<li>Attend and participate in meetings of the PDA executive members, which include booking public venues on\/off shall:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Be a Postdoctoral fellow residing in the Life Sciences Institute (due to budget restrictions)<\/li>\n<li>Oversee correct use and spending of the UBC PDA budget and liaise with Life Science Institute (LSI) admin staff<\/li>\n<li>Help organize events (3-Minute Postdoc Slam, Postdoctoral Research Day, seminars in general)<\/li>\n<li>Serve as the LSI
