{"id":2244,"date":"2018-03-21T11:53:54","date_gmt":"2018-03-21T19:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/?p=2244"},"modified":"2018-03-27T09:27:34","modified_gmt":"2018-03-27T17:27:34","slug":"agm-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2018\/03\/agm-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to the 2018\/19 PDA executive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The PDA&#8217;s new 2018\\19 Executive Team was elected at the 2018 AGM held on Wed, March 14<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0at the Life Sciences Institute, following a brief recap of the previous year from each of the outgoing Executive Officers.<\/p>\n<p>Kieran, the outgoing president started things off with a brief overview of some of our past events, and the recently agreed <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2018\/02\/funding\/\">increase to the PDA funding.<\/a>\u00a0Highlights included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2017\/07\/3mps2017_review\/\">3-Minute Postdoc Slam<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2017\/10\/ubc-career-days-2017\/\">Career Days<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2017\/08\/letter-writing-party\/\">Advocacy events<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2017\/12\/rd2017-report\/\">Postdoc Research Day<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Kieran also gave a quick overview of the role and activities of the outgoing VP Operations, \u00a0Mehrdad Bokharaei, VP External\u00a0Moe Elgendi, and VP Finance\u00a0J\u00fcrgen Niesser. The latter included more detail of the increase in budget as well as the current state of the PDA budget and PDA expenditure for 2017\/18.\u00a0 Ido Hatam, the outgoing VP Communications discussed his role, including our increased reach\u00a0with postdocs through more newsletter subscriptions and a great social media presence. Finally, Jessica Bosch the outgoing VP Social shared some of the great events she organized.<\/p>\n<p>Next, the Association voted unanimously to adopt the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/2018\/02\/amendments-to-the-constitution\/\">previously proposed<\/a> amendments to the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/constitution\/\">Constitution<\/a> and new Bylaws, with modifications to two of the Bylaws, which now read:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bylaw 5.6: A quorum at a General Meeting is ten Association Members, including at least half of Officers.<\/li>\n<li>Bylaw 7.6: RA Association Members may only serve as Vice-President Communications, Vice-President Social, or Vice-President Research Associates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The newly adopted Association <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpda\/constitution\/\">Constitution<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=1DBZRatC_QSuVqxCg9PdHzlRVOfTTjW5T\">Bylaws<\/a> can be viewed online.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #444444;\">We then opened the floor for nominations for each of the Officer positions. Following the election, t<\/span>he 2018-2019 PDA Officers are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>President \u2013 Alex Smith (Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences)<\/li>\n<li>VP Operations \u2013 Andrew Hagner (Michael Smith Laboratories)<\/li>\n<li>VP External \u2013 Fiona Zhang (Department of Urologic Science)<\/li>\n<li>VP Communications \u2013 Noriko Okamoto (Department of Botany)<\/li>\n<li>VP Finance \u2013 Chris\u00a0Rider (Faculty of Medicine)<\/li>\n<li>VP Social \u2013 Ido Hatam (Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The new team will officially take over from April 1, 2018, with the remainder of March used to facilitate a smooth transition.<\/p>\n<p>We strongly encourage people to get involved with the PDA!
