You may have found yourself asking:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How did the researchers get these numbers?<\/li>\n<li>What do the numbers <em>really<\/em> mean?<\/li>\n<li>How can I test if this is actually true?<\/li>\n<li>Does League of Legends really have a more toxic community than Fortnite?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you didn\u2019t ask these questions, no problem! Because by the end of this course, you will. You will be <em>that friend<\/em> on Facebook who questions every \u201cscientific fact\u201d and \u201cstatistic\u201d that your friends post. Let\u2019s face it \u2013 94.78% of those are wrong or made-up anyway. (The answer is League of Legends, by the way). <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-125 \" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/ubcpsyc217byc\/files\/2018\/09\/BNkrVfTGsSrWDTvkaTe1JCUL_400x400-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-324\" \/>The <strong>purpose<\/strong> of this course is to help you develop the skills to be a critical thinker &#8211; both as a consumer of, and contributor to, research. You will gain the knowledge\/tools to <strong>critically evaluate <\/strong>research and <strong>ask <\/strong>the appropriate questions, <strong>create<\/strong> new ideas and <strong>design<\/strong> ways to test your ideas, <strong>analyse<\/strong> your data, and <strong>communicate<\/strong> your results to others.
