The Countdown Begins!
by carlywen ~ February 26th, 2011. Filed under: Uncategorized.I just had the realization today that TriDu is next weekend! In seven days I will racing my first ever triathlon… I can’t believe it’s actually next week. I’m actually more nervous now than ever before. Panic mode begins.
I started doing some research about triathlon tips on the days leading up to the race. Since this is all incredibly foreign to me, I have a lot to learn about. How much training do I do in the last week? I have a 14k run on Monday and a big swim session on Wednesday. My biking schedule has fallen off the wagon because I got kicked out of my triathlon specific spin class at the BirdCoop because they accidentally oversold it… to Tri Club members… Don’t they already know how to bike??? I think that was the first time I have been disappointed about missing out on going to the gym.
The race week tips I have found so far are:
- Scale back training by 30%. Hmmm, I’m thinking that 14k run on Monday night isn’t looking like a great idea anymore. I’ll probably train with the Sun Run group that night instead.
- Stay hydrated. Looks like my water bottle and I will become one this week. Training myself to drink more water is always something I’ve struggled with. Usually I’ll only drink water when I’m thirsty… halfway through training or sports.
- Get lots of sleep. Easier said than done. This week I have lessons to plan, a field trip with the grade 11 social studies classes to Victoria, as well as I’m starting to coach the grade 8 ultimate team with practices on Wednesday and Friday… Oh man…
If anyone else has some veteran advice for what to do for the week before a race, help a newbie out!
