TriDu’in It Tomorrow!

Oh man, in less than 10 hours I will already be on the bike portion of my race! I’m actually relatively calm for someone who is about to race their first triathlon in the morning, but perhaps it’s because I really have no idea what I’m really getting myself into.

I can’t even guess how long it will take me to finish. Any number I choose would be completely out of the air. I’m not really too concerned with time anyway, as long as I can make it over the line I’ll be more than happy. I checked out last year’s results and the slowest time was two hours and 44 minutes by a woman in her 60s… I’d like to be able to be faster than that…

It’s true what they say about the importance of getting a good night’s sleep two nights before the race. It’s already 12:30am and I’m still up and about. I’m trying to get everything ready right now so I don’t have to be stressed out in the morning. I’ve made a checklist (with help from some websites), organized everything in my bag according to when I’ll need it (My neurotic tendencies are quite useful sometimes), and even laid out my breakfast on the counter.

Ahhh!!! Now I’m actually getting pretty excited. I still can’t believe that I’m doing a triathlon. It’s funny how much a year can change a person. Had you told me this time last year that in 2011 I would be doing a triathlon, I would’ve laughed in your face. I also didn’t expect to be in the B.Ed program. It’s pretty cool to think that this time next year your life could take a whole new direction.

Well, I’m off to pretend to sleep. Have you ever tried to force yourself to sleep but your eyelids start twitching because they don’t actually want to be closed? Pretty sure that’ll be me tonight.

Look out for me on the course tomorrow at 10:10 am! I’m number 2164!
