“Be Prepared Not Scared” – My UBC TriDu flowchart training tool

by Jackie Byrn

A simple flowchart poster is my UBC Tri race prep focus. As a provincial emergency preparedness volunteer my attention always centers on safety and sureness no matter what the task. Getting ready for my annual participation in the UBC Tri calls for flawless preps. My flowchart poster comes in handy every year.

Duct Tape, A Runner’s BFF?

Ajhfkadhfaksjfhasd. That is how I feel right now after just running 12km. I threw myself on the floor when I got home pretending to stretch when really I was just playing dead. (Don’t worry, I actually did a proper stretch.)

The route was pretty insane. From the LadySport on 4th and Alma to the Burrard Bridge, over the Burrard Bridge then along Pacific and Beatty to the Cambie Bridge and over, then all the way along 2nd back to Alma. I ran past where I used to work in Yaletown in the summer… I ran past BC Place… I ran past a whole whack of places I never thought I would run past starting out in Point Grey.

Just Keep Running, Just Keep Running

My motivation to go to my Monday night running clinic was at an all time low this week, if last week’s motivation was at negative 5, this week was at negative 10. After some gentle encouragement (or yelling…) from friends, I went.

Holy crap did I hate the first kilometre of the run. We ran up Collingwood and there’s a two block span just before 16th Ave that has an incline of 90%. Okay, it’s probably more like 45%, but at the time that hill was the worst thing I had seen in my life
