Resources, Tools, and Materials for Studying Sanskrit

This page serves as a central hub for learners and readers of Sanskrit at the University of British Columbia. Click on the buttons below to access various materials we are developing to support the study of Sanskrit, including:

  • WWW.UBCSANSKRIT.CA: An interactive website featuring visually-oriented lessons, exercises, charts and tables to supplement the Devavāṇipraveśikā primer by R. Goldman and S. Sutherland Goldman (Third Edition, 2004). Developed by Tim Bellefleur and Adheesh Sathaye (2008-10).
  • SANSKRIT GRAMMAR:A set of visually robust handouts to go along with a growing series of short video lectures to introduce major grammatical and linguistic features of Sanskrit, including phonology, script, nouns, verbs, and syntax. Currently under development by Adheesh Sathaye (2021-).
  • SANSKRIT LEARNING TOOLS:A compilation of essential online tools that will be useful for learning Sanskrit, including links to other more thorough aggregators of such tools. If you have a suggestion to add, let us know!
  • OTHER GOODIES:Password-protected area for students and researchers of Sanskrit and related fields at UBC.

This website, and the materials developed within it, are all works in progress. We welcome suggestions for improvement, feedback, and especially compliments! As we like to say, every handout, every video, every page will have a mistake or omission. If you happen to find one, congratulations! Please send us a note at the contact information below, and we will reward you with something fancy!
