Upcoming Faculty Professional Development Opportunities
August 2022:
UBC’s Centre for Teaching, Learning & Technology (CTLT) is once again hosting the Teaching Development Program for New Faculty, an 8-month program with synchronous and asynchronous, online and in-person learning opportunities. This program brings together a cohort of new faculty members into a community to participate in workshops and other events, share questions and ideas on various topics in teaching and learning, and work on teaching portfolios over the course of the program. If you or someone you know are new to UBC, new to teaching, or have taken on a new faculty role, please consider applying; the kick-off for this program is August 23.
Coming up the third week of August is the annual CTLT Summer Institute, a set of workshops focused on fundamentals of teaching and learning, particularly for new faculty, but that are also valuable for anyone engaged in teaching. Workshop topics include authentic assessments, embedding student wellbeing into teaching and learning, creating a learner-centred and inclusive syllabus, fostering a meaningful connection with Indigenous-focused topics, and connecting power, privilege, and positionality in teaching and learning. Some sessions take place in person, others online.
