Description of exec positions

Below are brief descriptions of the executive positions that make up the GSCS. For full descriptions, see our Constitution. (Not all positions are reflected in the Constitution.) Other positions may be created on an as-needed basis.

  • President – Oversees organization (chairs monthly meetings, represents graduate students at functions, mediates student concerns, etc.)
  • VP Admin – Takes minutes at every GSCS meetings, circulates minutes through list serv and sends reminders for meetings.
  • VP External – Communicates with external groups, such as the Anthrology Grad Students Association, or the Sociology Undergraduate Association, and helps coordinate events with these groups.
  • VP Finance – Takes care of financial matters for the GSCS, including reimbursements.
  • Springboards Chair(s) – Oversees the organization of the Springboards workshop series. Springboards are student-led events, such as workshops or seminars, where graduate students can share their work with each other or help each other acquire new skills (grant/scholarship writing, for example).
  • Graduate Conference Chair(s) – Oversees the organization of the annual graduate student conference.
  • Social Events Chair(s)  – Organises regular social events for graduate students in the department.
  • Student Representative (M.A.) – Represents M.A. students at monthly faculty meetings, and reports at every GSCS meeting.
  • Student Representative (PhD) – Represents PhD students at monthly faculty meetings, and reports at every GSCS meeting.
  • Undergrad Mentorship Chair – Coordinates the Undergrad Mentorship program by matching graduate students with undergraduate students.
  • Web coordinator / Communications Chair – Keeps website updated and promotes the GSCS and its activities via social media and other means.
  • Graduate Student Society Representative – Represents Sociology Grad Students at the Graduate Student Society (GSS) by attending monthly GSS Council meetings and working on at least one GSS committee. Reports at every GSCS meeting.
