Holistic Approach

Holistic Approach: In regards to health, a holistic approach upholds all aspects of a person’s health, including psychological, physical and social. All areas should be seen as a whole to unite the apsects of health in a balance that allows optimum equality.

At Unity Health Center we believe in a holistic approach which encompasses all the aspects of health including the mind, body and soul. This approach truely embodies what it means to be healthy and fight disease.

Research has linked many health benefits to practices such as yoga, pilates, and meditation. This is why our program encourages clients to participate in our classes. Studies have linked yoga to having benefits in digestion, respiratory, cardiovascular and immunicological functions (Balaji, Verne, & Syed, 2012). These health impacts extend even further to cognitive processes, nervous system function, and many other aspects of health (Balaji et al., 2012). Furthermore this study connected yoga and meditation with maintainence of symptoms for diseases such as; obesity, diabetes, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, COPD, and cancer (Balaji et al., 2012).

Yoga is being implimented into cancer therapy programs to help reduce depression and anxiety surrounding the diagnose and the battle to overcome the disease. It has also been linked to decreasing fatigue, promoting relaxation, and improvements around toxicity relating to chemotherapy (Balaji et al., 2012). Theories behind yoga and meditation practices are that; it influences the immune system, encouraging immune cells to fight the cancer cells and also increases their efficiency(Balaji et al., 2012). Practicing yoga while receiving chemotherapy or radiation therapy can also mimize the damaging effects inflicted by intense treatments (Balaji et al., 2012).
