[Video] If happiness is on the opposite side of success, you brain never gets there

Thanks to my friend Sophia Tran-Vu’s post on Facebook, I found a video which tries to further emphasis positive thinking.

Part of my view on life is to live a happy and fun life.

Shawn Achor stress the importance of reversing the happiness formula:

Traditionally, people think that if they work harder, they will be more successful, and if they are more successful, then they will be happier.

Under this notion, every time you achieve success, your brain just changes what success looks like:
– you have a good job, now you have to get a better job
– you get good grades, now you have to get better grades
– you hit your sales target, now you have to increase your sales target

If happiness is on the opposite side of success, you never get there.

So celebrate your successes AND failures. Remember that every failure is just one more step towards the next success, and should be celebrated. That’s thinking positive.

If you condition your brain to think positive, it functions 31% better compared to if it was negative, neutral or stressed. Your intelligence rises, your creativity rises.

Think positive first, then your brain works better.

How to create lasting positive change:

– give gratitude to others
– exercise regularly
– perform random acts of kindness, without expectation of whether they will return it back

and I add to this
– think funny first, most things in life aren’t a big deal

Here is the video where my summary above is from, pay especially close attention to the latter half of the presentation:
