Alibaba’s Power

Almost everyone has heard of the e-commerce company, Alibaba. Similar to their American counterparts, E-Bay and Amazon, Alibaba is a site that allows users and businesses can trade with one another while accepting Escrow as one of their payment methods. Earlier this week, during Stephen Harper’s stay in China, he met with founder of Alibaba, Jack Ma, and spoke about including Canadian products on their website and even the possibility of opening up an office in Vancouver.
In my opinion, this is a great opportunity for Vancouver as this city is second best to Toronto in all thingsĀ financial, musical, and even fashion. Picking Vancouver after careful considerations must mean that our city has the resources to sustain and expand Alibaba to the company that they want to become. I find this interesting as Microsoft announced a little over half a year ago that they would be opening up an office in the heard of Downtown Vancouver. With all these companies moving in, hopefully the city’s unemployment rate decreases and our city can be seen as one of the cities where other large tech companies hope to move into.
