Do you know what a Missed Connection is? Wikipedia gives this definition: A missed connection is an occurrence where two or more people are unable to exchange contact information or the information that is exchanged is lost. These missed connections are generally associated with romance, but they may also be business-related or otherwise. Through the use of publications and websites some people seek to reconnect with their missed connection.
Our students wrote some missed connections about people in the Explore program. It’s up to you to figure out which ones are real, and which ones are fabricated!
When I saw you for the first time at the club, I could not take my eyes off of you. You walked in with confidence. Even though there were many people, you stood out because you were different, you had charm. The DJ was playing reggaeton and you were dancing so well. I could not help but stare at your muscular body. I was too shy to approach you, or maybe not drunk enough, but now I wish I had. If you want to dance, meet me at Caprice nightclub Friday night. Look for the girl with a flower in her hair.
I saw her in the cafeteria after class; she was wearing a beautiful light blue dress. I wanted to reach her to make conversation, but there was not enough time. I thought “maybe I could invite her out for coffee and ask her for her email”. While I was buying my food, she left and I haven’t seen her since. Anyway, at least I enjoyed the coffee!
I met you on the first day of the program. You seemed sweet and you also looked great with your hat and your long brown hair. I asked you your name and your age. I thought that it would be hard to find a way to become friends with you because I’m a shy person, and I am better at expressing myself when I write. When we were on the cruise in English Bay on Wednesday evening, you asked me to dance with you and another guy who was next to you. I don’t know if it was because of the alcohol or because of you, but I accepted your invitation. It was something very unusual for me, but I did it because you asked. I did it because I wanted to see your beautiful smile and hear your laugh. And when you touched me as one friend does to another, you blew me away. Having a friendship is something that is hard for me because I’m not used to making friends. To be clear, I do not know how to start a friendship. And then we were not placed in the same class, so it was hard for us to get to know each other. Now, I see you walking on the campus and sometimes I tell myself that I should come your way to tell you ‘’hello’’, but I keep walking with regret.
I don’t know why, but when I see you I always smile and my heart skips a beat. You look shy and so sweet! Your smile makes me melt and your hair is always perfectly placed. You’re so cute. You have a very beautiful accent. When you talk, your smile captivates me. I really love your clothes, your style and your smile. You’ve got a little bit of a tan and it’s very seductive. I haven’t really had the chance to talk to you, I’m very shy. You intimidate me. I feel nervous when you’re there. It’s sad because we don’t see Explore the same way.
The first day I saw you was in the second week of the Explore program. One night, when we were at a nightclub, you went to buy a beer, and I remember that I was beside the bar. You were talking and joking with your classmates, and I was talking with my friends as well. Then we both danced, and you looked at me. After a while, you came up to me and said ”You’re a beauty! Do you want to dance with me?” After that, we danced together all night. I loved it! I remember the shirt you wore that night because I really liked it. The next day we were out all day and we spent time together. Now after the Explore program we will both return to Montreal. I would like to meet your family and maybe we can even move in together.
