Restaurant review – Shabusen

Bonjour! Le restaurant que nous allons vous presenter s’appelle Shabusen. Il est situé au centre-ville, boulevard Burrard. Les sushis et le bbq coréen sont au menu pour un bon petit goûter très abordable a partir de 13$ (et 23$ pour un souper)! Avec une belle ambiance, le restaurant est toujours bien rempli. Leur service est tellement rapide — vraiment efficace. Vous avez même sur votre table un plat à raquelette et vous pouvez y cuire vous même votre viande; c’est fantastique! C’est vraiment delicieux! Mais vous n’avez qu’une heure pour manger…c’est le point négatif à apporter. Bon appetit !

Coffee and Tea (photo rally)

We have to represent the tea and coffee shops on campus so we decided to look on the campus for the conveniently located spots as well as the best place to have a coffee according to some Explore staff and students ! So here’s the list of all the places we went with a short description!

STIR IT UP COFFEE: Located in Buchanan A, this is the closest café to our class in Buchanan D.

TIM HORTON’S: Not that far, on your way to go to class if your night was short and you’re still sleepy the morning. It’s also our coordinator, Matthew’s favourite place to grab a coffee. Also, it is not very expensive: a small coffee and a donut for only $2.81!

BOULEVARD COFFEE: When you enter, it smells so good; this is a peaceful place where they roast their own coffee beans. The ambiance is there! This is Ivo’s choice when he wants a good coffee!

BLUE CHIP COOKIE: This sweet place is situated in the SUB so very close to the classrooms, it is not expensive. For $3.00 you can have a muffin and coffee! Laura and Deborah’s recommendation!

STARBUCKS: Conviently located in the bookstore, if you want STARBUCKS coffee this is the place to go!

IKE’S CAFÉ: In the Irving K. Barber Center. It’s expensive but at least you are close to the computer lab!

THE LITTLE TEA SHOP: This is THE place to go if you want to have a good cup of tea! The bubble tea is MUST try !

MILANO COFFEE: Another place where it could be good to have a coffee and if Tim’s is too busy it is close so it is the place to go!

Restaurant Review – BC Sushi

When you go to Vancouver, you should eat fish and sushi. Like a good tourist, I’ve tried a lot of sushi restaurants since I got here. One Saturday night, I found what I think is one of the best sushi restaurants around UBC. To go to this place, you can take the 99 bus and you get off the bus at Arbutus. I ate tempura with chicken teriyaki and all different kinds of sushi for only $15! The fish was very fresh and tasty. My chicken was juicy and crispy at the same time. A couple of things are strange at this restaurant. First, to go to the washroom, you have to pass though the kitchen! Also, their washroom is not wheelchair accessible, because the path to get to the washroom is very narrow.

Coffee is probably the most common drink worldwide. Coffee is known for its smell and even people who don’t drink coffee like its smell. On the University of British Columbia Campus we can find several coffee shops: Tim Hortons, Starbucks and other private coffee shops. The workers are usually friendly and always smiling.

It’s now a trend to buy a cup or glass with the coffee brand printed on it, and it is not often affordable as the price for a cup can be up to $10! Therefore, this shows that coffee is becoming more and more a part of North American society’s culture.

Tea, however is more specifically an Asian drink that was spread worldwide with the Asian emigration all across the world. Tea is a great drink and has also become a symbol of British society.

Finally, whatever you prefer as a drink between coffee and tea, they are both great with a nice cake or muffin.

Critique d’un restaurant – Café Crêpe

Le nom du restaurant dont nous allons faire la critique est Café Crêpe. Dans ce restaurant on retrouve plusieurs sortes de crêpes et breuvages. Il y a plusieurs restaurants Café Crêpe à Vancouver, mais il y en a un situé sur la rue Robson. Vous pouvez prendre l’autobus 4 ou 14 vers le centre-ville. Vous pouvez manger à ce restaurant pour un prix abordable, entre 7 et 15 $. Le service est très rapide, car il est possible de prendre votre crêpe pour apporter ou de le manger sur place. Les types de crêpes disponibles sont sucrées ou salées.

Critique d’un restaurant – McDonald’s

J’ai choisi un restaurant américain qui est très, très connu partout au monde. Ce restaurant s’appelle McDonalds et il est à 15 minutes à pied des résidences. Il se trouve sur le boulevard de l’Université, près du campus du campus d’UBC.

Le côut de leur nourriture comme leurs hamburgers, frites, poutines, ainsi que leurs boissons, est très abordable pour ceux qui veulent faire des économies, surtout comparé aux autres restaurants.

En général, la plupart de ces restaurants changent leur décor à un décor plus moderne et confortable pour attirer les consommateurs. L’ambiance varie selon la location et l’heure du jour, mais habituellement, c’est bruyant et il y’a toujours beaucoup de monde. À propos de leur service, c’est parmi les plus pires que j’ai vus dans ma vie.

Jusqu’à maintenant, j’aime leurs frites et leurs croquettes de poulet. C’est très bon au goût mais la texture ne semble pas être la même qu’on voit dans la publicité à la télévision et leurs panneaux affichés.

Leurs points positifs sont qu’ils sont ouverts 24 heures sur 24 et que leur nourriture est abordable. D’un point négatif, leur nourriture n’est pas santé si consommée tous les jours.

Critique d’un restaurant: Triple O’s

Triple-O’s est un restaurant spécialisé en hamburgers. Ils offrent des frites et hamburgers de poulet et de boeuf. Il est possible de boire de l’alcool. L’endroit est très éclairé et il y a pleins de fênetres.
Pour s’y rendre en partant de la place Vanier il faut prendre Agricultural Road tout droit et le restaurant se trouve juste au coin de Main Mall et Agricultural.
Le prix, qui peut varier selon le choix, va des cinq à douze dollars. L’ambiance est très agréable, ils jouent de la musique tranquille et le service est efficace. Ils ont des promotions quotidiennes pour l’alcool ainsi que pour la nourriture. Ils ont une grande variété de bières. Les hamburgers sont bons, la viande est fraîche et à l’intérieur du burger, il y a beaucoup de légumes frais. De l’autre côté, ils n’offrent pas un choix de salades; en plus, les prix sont hauts pour un budget d’étudiant.

Restaurant review: McDonald’s

We chose McDonald’s.

It’s a famous restaurant where kids like to go and when they grow up, they still like to eat their beef and chicken hamburgers, chicken nuggets, etc. On campus, there’s a McDonald’s in the University Village, near Staples, which is a 15 minute walk from the residence.

The cost of the food at McDonald’s is also low, around $10 per combo, and they have kids’ prices. In general, the service is fast, the decor and ambiance are ordinary and it’s not clean enough. There is a lot of garbage on the floor, on the tables and the waste baskets are full. I like McDonald’s food a lot; in fact, I have become a little bit dependent. A positive point for this restaurant is that they have a 24 hour location on campus.

Restaurant Review: The Delly

The Delly is well located in the Student Union Building. It is a good restaurant where you can eat for less than $10. There are excellent sandwiches for $5-6. It is a kind of high quality fast food! The meal I tried is the salmon sandwich, it was really good for the price; it was a pretty big portion too! The negative points are that there is a pretty big line up on rush hours and some members of the staff speak barely English. But instead of that they have low prices!
