Towards Developing Trust in Online Third-Party Reporting Systems for Survivors of Sexual Assault<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

VESTA Social Innovation Technologies<\/span><\/a>, in collaboration with the University of British Columbia, is investigating\u00a0people\u2019s opinions on third-party reporting systems.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

Third-party reporting is when someone else reports the crime to the police. It allows individuals who do not want to report the crime directly to ensure that police\u00a0receive a report about the crime. Individuals may report the assault to police through a community-based victim-service program. This way of reporting protects the individual\u2019s identity and also allows the police\u00a0to get the information they need. \u00a0For example, if police learn additional details about the crime through their investigation, such as the name of the offender, or if other victims have come forward, the third party can act as a go-between for police to get information from the individual.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are recruiting\u00a0sexual assault survivors and volunteers\/staff<\/strong> of third-party reporting organizations.\u00a0To be eligible to take part\u00a0in the study, participants must be\u00a019 years or older<\/strong>.\u00a0The study is open\u00a0to all genders, and\u00a0no background knowledge about a third-party reporting system is required.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Based on the participant\u2019s preference, we will either interview the participant\u00a0(in-person or via Skype)<\/strong> or conduct an in-person or online<\/strong>\u00a0focus group session.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The interview sessions will take place at\u00a0the participant\u2019s preferred location<\/strong>\u00a0and will last approximately 60 minutes. <\/span>The focus group sessions will last about 90 minutes and will take place either at the Greater Toronto Area or Kingston\/Frontenac or online.<\/span><\/p>\n

We will compensate participants\u00a0with $20<\/strong> for their time.\u00a0Volunteers or staff from a third-party support organization will be available to provide support during and after each session.<\/span><\/p>\n

By taking part\u00a0in this study, you will provide researchers\u00a0with\u00a0the information needed to develop online third-party reporting systems.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
