It’s no\u00a0news that art and creativity come hand in hand — but what about creativity and business?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A few weeks ago, my friends told me they don’t think creativity is an essential trait for managers to have. I was shocked by this as personally I value having creativity as I see it as a driving force for new ideas and innovations; creativity allows one the freedom to turn visions into reality. I came to a realization that people often only link creativity with art — but whether you’re an accounting firm or a design company,\u00a0“creativity\u00a0<\/a>is rapidly shifting from a ‘nice to have’ to a ‘must have'”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I believe that with the clash of values between baby boomers and millennials becoming more prominent in the workplace, the expectations of work environments has began to shift. Employees perceptions of an enjoyable workplace has steered away from the quiet cubicle where all their tasks were listed out, and are now demanding an environment that offers more room for freedom, more room for creative thinking — but sadly, not all managers are willing evolve with these changes.<\/p>\n

Some managers fear creativity because it leaves room for risks. Managers who have high levels of uncertainty avoidance will tend to abstain from promoting creative thinking without realizing that cultivating a creative work environment can actually significantly boost \u00a0employees’ job satisfaction and “unlock meaningful results.<\/a>”\u00a0If employees are given the freedom to unleash their personal ideas, they will feel more intrinsically motivated to exert effort.<\/p>\n

Creativity allows employees to shift away from extrinsic rewards to the intrinsic reward of self-satisfaction upon seeing an idea come to life. It’s time for managers to steer away from traditional safe practices and instead become creative leaders as”true business leaders embrace uncertainty as creative catalysts that invite and demand innovation.<\/a>”<\/p>\n
