Topic: How do immigrants perceive IB program? What are the current issues related to such perception?

What I found out:

  • Parents love it
    • Universities value IB courses and credits.
    • IB Program well-prepare students for university.
    • The studying atmosphere is good.
    • Parents think regular classes are too easy for their kids.
  • students usually don’t look happy with it
    • Language challenge
    • Overwhelming writing.
    • Students’ interested subjects are usually hard to stand out due to the busy schedule.
    • Required to be all-around students, some students’ weaknesses may be magnified.
  • Problems:
    • Some immigrant parents tend to be lack of research and information and listen to myths such as “most university prioritize IB DP students”.
    • Some immigrant parents (not all) values scores much more than other performance.
  • Conclusion:
    • Building a connection with parents, especially immigrant parents who try to get involved to the community.
