It was an interesting and thought-provoking conversation, and we will have many questions for Nelson when he joins us on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Many thanks again to Mar\u00eda Julieta Cordero for inviting him, and for organizing this cycle of discussions and readings.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, recent blog posts include two from Rodolfo Ortiz:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/virtualkoerners\/bizarre\/\">\u201cBizarre\u201d<\/a>, on the photographer Joel Peter Witkin, one of Garrido\u2019s influences.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/virtualkoerners\/bolivia-optimismo-bastante-peculiar\/\">\u201cBolivia: un sentido de optimismo bastante peculiar\u201d<\/a>, on last year\u2019s disturbances in Bolivia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This week, we will be looking at more images and texts by and from Garrido, in anticipation of our discussion with him.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/portafolio.nelsongarrido.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Garrido\u2019s online portfolio<\/a>. Here you can find many of his series of photos, from <a href=\"http:\/\/portafolio.nelsongarrido.com\/?cat=3\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cMuertos en v\u00eda\u201d<\/a> (1988) to <a href=\"http:\/\/portafolio.nelsongarrido.com\/?cat=19\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Pensamiento Unico<\/a> (2008) and much more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Then we recommend two other texts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Daniuska Gonz\u00e1lez, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ubc.ca\/virtualkoerners\/files\/2020\/08\/gonzalez_pais-sangrante.pdf\">\u201cEl pa\u00eds sangrante: Trizas, huellas y borraduras de la violencia urbana en la fotograf\u00eda de Nelson Garrido\u201d<\/a>. <em>Taller de letras<\/em> 58 (2016): 51-76.<\/li>\n<li>Isaac Gonz\u00e1lez Mendoza, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elnacional.com\/entretenimiento\/nelson-garrido-soy-un-agitador-profesional-que-genera-imagenes\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Nelson Garrido: &#8216;Soy un agitador profesional que genera im\u00e1genes\u2019\u201d<\/a>. <em>El Nacional<\/em> (October 1, 2019).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We also continue to recommend an article that we discussed last Wednesday:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inger Pedre\u00e1\u00f1ez, <a href=\"https:\/\/revistaestilo.org\/2019\/10\/21\/las-provocaciones-de-nelson-garrido\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cLas provocaciones de Nelson Garrido\u201d<\/a>. This article also has links to various YouTube videos.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will meet on Wednesday, August 26, from 4pm Pacific. <\/p>\n<p>All this will take place on Zoom, of course. Because it\u2019s 2020.<\/p>\n<p>As always, however, feel free to join us later in the evening (from around 5:30pm onwards), without any expectation of having done any of the reading, and drink in hand if you so wish, for a more social check in.<\/p>\n<p>Also as always, please do feel free to invite others (whether they are in Vancouver or not) to join us. Virtual Koerner\u2019s is fully in Phase Four of lockdown, and we are delighted to see our \u201cbubble\u201d continuing to expand. If anyone wants to be added to the list, they can be in touch with me.<\/p>\n<p>And again, we very much welcome and invite suggestions of texts, speakers, discussion topics, and so on.
